Our Vision

SCROLL DOWN

Our Vision

RISING TO NEW LIFE IN CHRIST AND

BECOMING A CREATIVE FORCE FOR CHANGE.

For years, the people of our city have wanted to leave Johnstown. Our only claim to fame is the giant wall of water that nearly wiped us off the map during the Great Flood of 1889. Since then, the steel mills have closed down, jobs are difficult to find, and local businesses are struggling. Kids get into trouble because "there is nothing to do around here," and they wait for graduation day - wondering how fast they can earn their diplomas and get out of town. Houses stand empty and neighborhoods are falling into disrepair, while most people reminisce about "the way things used to be..."

BUT OUR STORY ISN'T OVER YET.

Flood City Church is rising to new life in Christ and becoming a creative force for change. We believe there are people in the Johnstown area who still care about the future of our hometown. An army is rising up to fight for our city. Together, we will work with God to restore families, influence the culture, revitalize neighborhoods, and start a revolution of hope that will flood the city of Johnstown.

Core Values

TEACHABLE:

We believe that God is ever-present, continuously offering us new opportunities to learn, grow, change, and transform. We receive instruction, adjust accordingly, and then move forward in our destinies. Our FLOOD CITY family will remain teachable, always hungry for more.

ADAPTABLE

We are able to thrive under change as well as pivot quickly when necessary.

RESPONSIBLE:

We are responsible for our words, our behavior, our relationships, and our impact on the world. With each new lesson learned, we take responsibility for putting our knowledge into action, allowing the Holy Spirit to change and improve our lives, and then sharing that transforming knowledge with others.

ACCOUNTABLE:

We are willingly accountable to God, and to others. We choose to live under the direction and authority of God, and therefore we respect and honor everyone around us. We will reflect His true personality by creating an atmosphere of excellence that makes God’s promises real to the city of Johnstown.

LOVABLE:

In the family of God, we are loved completely and perfectly, without limits and regardless of our failures and flaws. His love fills us, overwhelms us, and moves us to love others. It is this matchless love that will define who we are, unify our family, and flood the city of Johnstown.

VISIBLE:

Actions speak louder than words, and for this reason we will continue to make God’s love visible by teaching, serving, caring, forgiving, loving, leading, and encouraging every person within our reach.

Statement of faith

God

We believe there is only one real God, but He exists as three separate individuals: Father, Son & Holy Spirit. They live in perfect unity, but with unique and separate functions. God is eternal – He always was and always will be there. He created heaven and earth, land and sea, plants and animals, and US! He loves us and wants a relationship with us, but He also gives us the right to make our own decisions. I John 5:6-8, Matthew 28:18-20

The Bible

The Bible. We believe the Bible is better than just a good story. It is the written word of God - printed by humans, but inspired by the Holy Spirit. That makes it a completed book that is 100% true, dependable, holy, and worth studying! It serves as our daily road map – guiding us as we make decisions and giving us a standard to work toward. II Timothy 2:15, II Timothy 3:16

Heaven & Hell

We believe that Heaven and Hell are real places, and that people are made up of three parts – body, soul, and spirit. When your body (your outer shell) takes its final breath, your soul and spirit will go on living, either in Heaven or Hell. God allows us to determine where our souls and spirits will live.              I Kings 8:30, Revelation 20:10 and 21:8

The Rescue Plan

Salvation. We believe that when God created us, He wanted us to be His companions. However, God is perfect, and people are not. From the start, we care selfishly about ourselves and we make choices that do not please God. This sinful condition separates us from Him, no matter how many good choices we make or how hard we try. Because He loves us, God offers us a plan of rescue that can restore our relationship with him. The plan is a free gift from God, and like any gift it must be received. All we have to do is choose to turn away from our old life, and trust Jesus to be our Lord and Rescuer. Without this plan of salvation, our souls could not spend eternity in Heaven. Instead, we would be forever separated from God, in Hell. John 3:16

The Rescuer

Jesus. We believe that God loved the world so much He sent His Son, Jesus to live among us. He was born of a virgin, lived as a perfect example to us here on Earth, and then fulfilled God’s plan when He died on the cross. In death, Jesus took the punishment that we deserve for our sins, and then He rose again 3 days later, just as scripture predicted He would. Believing in Jesus and asking him to save us is the only way that we can bridge the separation between ourselves and God, and it is the only way our souls can live forever with Him in Heaven. John 3:16, John 1:1-9, Galatians 4:3-7, I Corinthians 15:3, John 11:24, I John 2:25

The Enemy

We believe that Satan is God’s enemy, and therefore he is also the enemy of our souls. The Bible tells us that Satan was an angel who rebelled against God and was then banished from Heaven, along with the other angels who joined in his rebellion. Because he hates God, Satan works to steal, kill, and destroy the lives and souls of everyone on Earth. However, when we accept Jesus as our rescuer, we gain authority over the enemy and his schemes. Luke 10:18, Revelation 12:9, John 10:10

Jesus Will Return

After Jesus’ death on the cross, He rose again 3 days later, and then spent time on Earth. Forty days later, while his friends stood watching, God took Jesus back up into Heaven on a cloud. However, we believe that Jesus will return to Earth again someday. The Bible tells us that, before the end of the world occurs, Jesus will return and take all true Believers still living on Earth away with Him to Heaven. I Thessalonians 4:13

 Holy Spirit

While we wait for Jesus to come back, God has given us the Spirit of Christ to guide us and convict us when we go off track. The Holy Spirit is always with us – confirming our connection to God and causing His glory to shine through us. He also provides gifts that we can use to accomplish specific goals as we walk with God and tell others about His perfect love. John 14:25, Acts 2:4, Romans 5:5, I Corinthians 12:4-11, Jude 1:20

 Worship

We believe that God always deserves to be loved and honored, so we choose to make worship our lifestyle. We worship God every day by putting Him first in our lives, telling others about His kindness and love, contributing our time, effort, and finances to His cause, and following His plan for our lives. Romans 12:1, John 4:24, I Chronicles 16:29

The Church

While we wait for Jesus to return to Earth, the church must rise up to take His place. We believe it is our job to serve as ‘the body of Christ,’ where every person has a unique purpose and talent that helps everyone else. God never expected us to impact the world alone; He wants us to act as a family, so He calls us to join the church – a hospital for the brokenhearted! We also believe that God provides 5 specific offices of ministry that work together for the benefit of the body: apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists, and teachers. I Corinthians 12:27-28, Romans 12:4-8, Hebrews 13:16, I Peter 4:8, Galatians 6:10, Galatians 5:13-15
